Constitution
The purposes of the society are:
a) to
support and promote the healing ministry and abiding presence of Christ,
b) inspired by the Gospel and the teaching of the Catholic Church, the
society strives to achieve a universal concern for health promotion
and holistic care as a condition for full human development in our provincial
community,
c) to promote respect for the inherent dignity of each person and to
reverence that unique experience of life, of sickness and of death,
d) to promote and to stimulate concern for health as a total process
including the maintenance, restoration and extension of health as a
part of the full development of the human person and of our society,
e) to help develop structures which foster holistic health, respect
and reverence for those who are sick, aged, disabled and dying,
f) to mediate or build bridges between the different groups in society
that are involved in, responsible for and have an effect on health as
a total process,
g) to assist in preparing the contemporary provincial community for
the critical problems of the future,
h) to probe the ethical issues in the life sciences and in collaboration
with the magisterium of the Church; to provide guidelines for action,
i) to collaborate at all levels in assuring that competent and compassionate
pastoral care is available in the health apostolate,
j) as an ecclesial community, to be aware and supportive of current
social justice concerns, particularly those with health care implications,
k) to intensify the humanizing of health care in cooperation with other
groups in society,
l) to stimulate and support research on the fundamental root diseases
and crippling illnesses of our society, as well as on methods of health
care and its delivery,
m) to develop productive relationships with national, provincial and
other appropriate associations and to identify key areas and opportunities
for collaboration,
n) to assist health care agencies in meeting accreditation standards
for pastoral care departments,
o) to promote mission effectiveness and pastoral educational opportunities
for health care workers,
p) to enhance the Association profile and the security of the Catholic
ownership of health care institutions,
q) to be a provincial resource centre for all interested parties,
r) to influence provincial policy in health related matters,
s) to identify problems related to the delivery of health care and to
plan appropriate action,
t) to co-operate with other denominational organizations in areas of
common interest and
u) to assist lay people in assuming leadership positions at all levels
within Catholic health care institutions.
